Patients can prevent gum disease with proper brushing and flossing as well as checkups. Prevention is key to keeping gum disease is like gingivitis and periodontitis at bay. We are urge patients to come in for an annual exam each year as that helps us to clean in between the teeth and gums, and to get rid of plaque and tartar build-up, which can contribute to gum disease. Plaque and tartar is one of the main reasons gum disease starts. A regular oral exam and an annual teeth cleaning is important to keeping the mouth healthy.
